B&C Barker Wealth Ltd. – Insurance Agent, Financial PlannerFraser Barker Advisory Group of Aligned Capital Partners Inc. – Investment Advisor
I’ve always been a numbers guy. As a pre-teen, I tracked my hockey statistics against others to see how I compared.
I became a Chartered Accountant (CA) and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) based on a presentation I saw in high school - I knew that’s what I wanted to be. I earned my BBA in Business from Simon Fraser University, and spent most of my career as a CPA, CA. I also spent 10 years working as a CFO for private enterprises.
Before forming our wealth advisory practice, I interviewed many wealth advisory firms on behalf of my clients. During one interview, I was introduced to the concept of evidence-based investing and given a list of books to read. That research, coupled with what I’ve learned working in this industry for nearly 30 years, inspired how we approach wealth management today.
I joined the predecessor to our current firm, Gary Huston, as an advisor. Gary and I worked closely together until he retired and offered me the opportunity to take over.
As a CPA, CA I have a deep understanding of the impact of tax laws and planning on wealth management. I will always give you my honest, unbiased opinion, insights and perspective on your complete financial picture – beyond your investments.
I met my wife and business partner, Colleen, in middle school. We have two grown children and are active golfers at Predator Ridge in Vernon. Our daughter is a teacher, and our son is an avid golfer exploring his career options. I often spend time following him to events as his caddy.
Our favorite vacation spot is Palm Springs, CA.
I enjoy downhill skiing in the winter and discovering new restaurants. I also love to cook and share my creations with friends and family.

After caddying for my son at the Canadian Men's Mid-Amateur Championship in Victoria.
I began my education with the intention of becoming a Chartered Accountant (CA), but decided it wasn’t the right path for me. The early years of my career were in ladies retail and fashion, where I studied clothing and human behavior.
When I moved from the retail industry, I met Gary Huston. He ran a wealth advisor firm. Subsequently, I introduced him to Brent. Brent and I made the decision to work with Gary. We ended up buying his advisory firm when he retired.
Early in my financial career, I was drawn to simple solutions rather than trading or trying to out-smart the market. After doing a lot of reading and attending many conferences, I was convinced that evidence-based investing is the only sound and responsible way to invest.
I value working with people and helping them plan. I’ve spent a lot of time helping women in all stages of life.
I’m a member and former President of Vernon Women in Business. I served as the Chair of the Women of the Year Committee and was nominated as Woman of the Year in 2015. I’ve been on the Board of Directors for the Vernon Golf Club and part of the Business Ladies Golf Program at both Vernon Golf Club and now Predator Ridge.
Brent and I play a lot of golf. We also enjoy spending time in Palm Springs and hope to do more of that soon. I like to ski and snowshoe with our dogs in the winter and have a certificate in interior design, which is a hobby as well.

I’ve been interested in the financial industry since I was 10 years old. I stumbled across a book about a summer camp where kids learned how to invest in the stock market. The book wasn’t a hit with most of my peers, but I never forgot it.
When I had the opportunity to join Fraser Barker in November 2016, I couldn’t say “no.”. I have taken the Canadian Securities Course, Conduct and Practices Handbook and Wealth Management Essentials. I am now a Registered Representative under IIROC. I’m excited to continue my professional education and better serve our client base.
I am thrilled to be living in the Okanagan, with most of my family nearby. In my spare time I enjoy free diving, kayaking, hiking and helping my husband run our prototyping and manufacturing business.

The Okanagan has been my home since 1993. I joined Fraser Barker in 2011 as Gary Huston’s assistant and earned my Mutual Funds License in 2012. Eventually, I began working with Colleen Barker full-time, as Gary transitioned into retirement. I am looking forward to completing the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) very soon.
My husband Darren and I have two sons, two dogs and a cat. We enjoy kayaking on our local lakes - yes, even the cat. We are big Toronto Blue Jays fans. Our enthusiasm even made the Sportsnet highlights reel of a 2016 game against the Seattle Mariners.
As our sons get older, we are hoping to travel more. We are particularly excited about going back to New Zealand. In 2017, Darren and his fastball team represented Vernon and Canada and won gold medals at the World Master’s Games in Auckland.
I’ve always wanted to grow and cut my hair for donation to cancer wig production. As I work toward that, I’ll be raising money that will ultimately be donated to someone undergoing cancer treatments.
I have lived in Vernon since I moved here from Burnaby as a teenager and have three sons.
I have worked a variety of jobs over the years and have been at Fraser Barker for 12 years.
I am now the proud Grandma of two grandchildren and six step-grandchildren. I spend a lot of my free time with my sons and my grandkids. I also like to keep active, see movies with friends and always have a jigsaw puzzle on the go.
